SINGER TIP # 43

I have been taking care of my baby for the last 2 1/2 months and not been doing a whole lot of singing during this time, let alone warm up. So lately, I've been starting to do warm ups and I chose to start with classical warm ups rather than my pop warm ups I was so used to doing. Why? As a singer, it is very important to work out the whole range and even though I use my chest voice to sing 99% of the time, I cannot neglect my head voice. When I work out my head voice, my chest voice will strengthen as well.

After 2 months of no singing, my bridge passages were rough again, not to mention that my allergies have been acting up and doing wild things to my vocal folds. So, I'm taking my range back to smooth territories by vocalizing with classical warm ups. I start out with lots of raspberries (lip tirlls) to clear all the gunk out and then some descending scales with "ma's" in speaking range. I slowly take it up higher and higher with some scales on "oo's" and add a consonant in the front like "s" for air flow or "l" for placement.

I will start bringing up my chest voice and working on my hard mix during warm ups this week cos I have a performance coming up. Hopefully I can get back on track by then ;)
